About Katelyn:

I graduated from Salem College in 2007 with a degree in Communication and minors in Business Administration and English.  After graduating from college, I took a position as a teacher assistant and found that I loved working in the field of education.  I returned to my alma mater in 2010 to receive my teaching credentials and a Master's Degree in Elementary Education with an AIG certification.  I wanted to become a teacher for a very cliché reason- I want to make a difference.  While there are many fields where I could accomplish this goal, I feel that I can make the greatest impact in the world of education. Knowledge is the key to being successful in life. My goal, as an educator, is to prepare students for the 21st century by challenging them to think critically, by encouraging their creativity, and by helping them succeed.

I currently work at Northwest Elementary school in Davidson County. I am an AIG Specialist and teach 4th and 5th grade gifted students.  Before working at Northwest, I worked as an one-on-one EC assistant to a child who is visually impaired.  During my time in that position, I taught myself braille so that I could help and teach my student in the most meaningful way.

I am licensed to teach Elementary K-6, English 9-12, and Gifted students K-12.  I have a passion for working with gifted students and hope to continue my career in gifted education.

"I have a passion for teaching kids to become readers, to become comfortable with a book, not daunted.  Books shouldn't be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful; and learning to be a reader gives a terrific advantage." -Roald Dahl
